Bizarro is brought to you today by
My buddy, Andy Cowan, (former writer for TV shows like Seinfeld, Third Rock From the Sun, and Cheers) and I got to riffing recently on restroom signs and came up with a gob of them. I culled the best of the batch and made this comic for you, which I hope will make you smile. I’ve done a few restroom sign cartoons before. I think it’s an amusing motif, although I got some hate mail for this one.
But it doesn’t make for very interesting art, so today, to fulfill your eye candy requirements, here is a random image from my sketchbook. The image below is the sort of thing I like to draw when I’m not drawing a gag. I just start drawing whatever comes to mind and keep going until the space is full. I’m always surprised where it ends up. Let me know if you’d like to see more of these.
As with all images on my blog, you can click it for a larger view.
If you find yourself wanting Bizarro cartoons on “stuff”, click here.
I would love to see more of your sketches Dan…they’re wonderful!
Enjoyed the random picture, but I think it could be repurposed as a cartoon with the right caption:
“There. Fixed it without needing the extra hands. But now what do I do with the extra arm length?”
Okay, not so great, but maybe it’ll inspire better from other commenters. Caption contests ARE all the rage. (Or they inspire rage, I keep forgetting which) Bring on the random art (and consider making the most popular available on ‘stuff’ – I would half-consider this one on a shirt just to signify my lack of ability to fix things)
I’d definitely like to see more of the sketchbook doodles. That’s a great image.
yes! give us more, please!
LMAO Dan! The bathroom signs are a riot!!
Have you seen the bathroom sign for Scottish Pubs (as promoted by http://www.utilikilts.com)
at http://www.utilikilts.com/store/images/imagecache/unisex-restroom.jpg
I did a cartoon a few years ago of a guy in a Scottish pub and both the bathroom symbols had a skirt. I would have posted it here but couldn’t find it. I’m sure lots of folks have come across that idea, but the link you sent was a new twist. Thanks for the link.
I would love to see more sketches from the sketchbook. Thought processes are so important and my favorite part of studying about artists/architects etc.
More sketches!!!
Oh definitely more. I love the subconscious expressing itself in weird ways, visually. Hell, I have a sketch blog myself devoted to just that!
I was just about leave a comment saying my favourite rest room cartoon by you was the scottish pub one. Someone on your facebook contact posted it on their wall sometime back, so in case you are having trouble locating it you could post on your wall asking them to share it with you.
Thanks! A friend of mine just sent me that one so I’m going to add it to the blog post. :o)
Definitely more!
Love the comic and so does my friend, Les Seymour Doodles.
Seconded: I’d love to see more of your sketches!
Toilet signs get more creative as you move around the world. Poland’s pretty confusing for newcomers with its circles for women and triangles for men (I shudder to think where they got them from). Then, once you hit Asia and the Middle East it gets more creative!
Have a look here: http://www.iconglobe.net/blog/2007/10/08/toilet-geometry/
I love the way the triangle points up in one sign and down in another… does the upward-pointing triangle cater for more confident men, perhaps?
Yes, more sketches please.
Which of the five rest room pairing did you get hate mail from? Yes, please more sketches! I can’t get enough of those headless one eyed hamster peg legs!
It wasn’t one of the five in the cartoon listed, it was the one below the blue link on the words “this one.”
Ecnoeomis are in dire straits, but I can count on this!
I would say ‘When is the exhibition coming?’, but you can do it online or publish. The desire is out here, the skill and dreams are there with you. Would you please draw the next space vehicle-it’s a hydrogen balloon with a submarine beneath?!
I’ll think on it.
More sketches please!
